Thermal Ribbons

Thermal Transfer Ribbons:

There are various types of thermal transfer ribbons. Each type of ribbon has a range of grades. These materials contribute to the melting point of ribbons that affect the amount of energy necessary to print. It is crucial that the ribbon used is compatible with the correct properties, both chemical and physical. We carry near edge ribbons, tech ribbon as well as Video jet ribbon. We have ribbons for all types of  applications and printers. The following lists general guidelines about ribbon suitability and performance:

1. Wax ribbons normally contain a high concentration of wax based materials. Since waxes generally have lower melting points than resins, printing with wax ribbons usually requires less energy than printing with wax/resin or resin ribbons. As most waxes tend to be softer than resins, image durability is typically less.
Wax ribbons are appropriate for general purpose use. They are acceptable for most applications and that image life is short term when durability is not an issue. These ribbons are best used in general purpose labeling, shipping labels, address labels, warehouse applications including shelf and bin labels, retail tag, compliance labeling and textile/apparel applications.

2. Wax/resin combination ribbons have a higher percentage of resin. Printing with this type of ribbon requires more energy than wax. Since resins are harder than waxes, image resilience and chemical resistance for wax/resin ribbons are better than that of wax. These ribbons are more appropriate with matte coated, gloss coated paper including synthetic material such as polyethylene, and polypropylene. Wax/resin images will perform better where scratch, abrasion resistance, or mild chemical durability is required.

3. Resin ribbons contain the highest percentage of resin materials. Since resins are more durable than wax, resin images have excellent abrasion, scuffing, heat, and chemical resistance. They provide the best performance in harsh environmental conditions. They are best suited for use with gloss coated materials and are superlative for retail applications, textile/apparel uses, tags and labels used outdoors. Chemical exposure, medical and pharmaceutical labeling, as well as industrial and automotive applications.
